It's that time of year again! Last year I made it my mission to buy gifts from local vendors only. I have done that again this year & it's probably going to turn into an annual tradition for me.
You don't need to go far to find a plethora of ethically made, good quality, local products.
Candles & soaps are the perfect gifts. Maybe I'm biased (since I own a candle & soap company?) but from interacting with our beautiful customers at markets, it does seem to be the general consensus.
My pick this Christmas is from the Ginger & Wild Honeysuckle range. With notes of cinnamon, nutmeg & clove, this candle & soap combo screams Christmas.
Camille Co. has 4 markets to go before Christmas. You can find us at Crafternoon Tea on the 10th, Devonport Craft & Fine Food Market on the 11th, Parnell Craft Harvest Market on the 17th or the Twilight Coatesville Market on the 18th.
Price: $48.00 for the candle, $19.60 for the soap
Shipping: $6.00 flat rate (FREE if you spend over $150.00)
Total: $67.60 (if you buy from the markets) or $73.60 if you buy online
Ella Vi Jewellery
These punched recycled silver earrings are handmade by Ella Vi, right here in Auckland. Ella is a local jewellery maker who recently opened Coexist Workshop + Gallery in Victoria Park Market, where she now makes the majority of her jewellery.
Ella uses reclaimed silver, copper & brass to create her beautiful, unique pieces. She has created a marketplace which makes sustainable consumption easy. I dig it!
The perfect gift for the woman in your life who loves (ethically made) jewellery.
Total: $70.00 from the gallery or $75.00 online
The Herbal Teapot
The maker of these teas, Kim has worked in the realm of nutrition for over 20 years. She has a Bachelor of Naturopathy & a Diploma in Herbal Medicine so you know these teas are good for you!
These teas are a great price & would be a wonderful gift for any tea lover! I know I will be getting a few stocking stuffers from Kim. Find this humble business on Instagram using the handle @theherbalteapot. Even though I have only tried 2 variants of tea by The Herbal Teapot, I would put my money on it that all of them are top notch!
Care Of Label
Formerly known as Belle + Beau, this New Zealand label has recently had a rebrand. New name, new branding, Care Of produces the same ethical, organic cotton wardrobe stables we all love.
These items are made in New Zealand in safe & ethical working conditions. The cotton that Care Of uses is certified organic & free from toxic chemicals. I have decided to feature this label again because I just love it so much! I said it last year, & I will say it again this year, my Care Of dresses are the most comfortable items of clothes I own. They're like Pyjamas! Not only that, but I have washed & worn them countless times & they still look as good as new. The quality of the clothing speaks for itself.
This black with ivory stripe maxi tank dress is an absolute must for this summer. I'm putting in a request to Santa for one of these for myself!
Do you know someone who is a sucker for crafting? This is the gift for them! How gorgeous is this Yin Yang Whitework Design Kit?
Jennifer Strange is a local designer with a passion for designing embroideries, blackwork, sewing & other crafts. I personally know Jennifer & she is a machine, a very talented machine at that! There is the option to buy just the pattern for this Yin Yang design (includes instructions) but the kit is worth a mention because it can be gifted to someone who hasn't tried Whitework before (the kit comes with a needle, linen, thread etc).
DROPS OF LOVE
Affordable & adorable! A great Secret Santa gift, stocking stuffer or present for that friend who is always looking for their keys! If you're looking for a Secret-Santa gift for under $15 try her Mini Keyring ($12).
Drops of Love products are made with love here in Auckland, by Helen. Helen hand paints the beads & assembles all the keyrings herself. I frequently run into her at markets all around Auckland. Every time I see her, she has a new batch of gorgeous colour combos. There's one for everyone!
Two Black Dogs
This olive oil by Two Black Dogs has to be tried to be believed. I bought some for my Mum for her birthday & she was lovely enough to share. YUM!
Gift the foodie in your life with this trio of locally produced Extra Virgin Olive Oils. This beautifully presented box has three 250ml bottles. You get to choose which oils make up the box. Choose from Ascolano, Leccino, Koroneiki & Limited Edition (choosing is the tricky part because they are all as delicious as each other).
The olives for these oils are harvested from the owner's olive grove in Mangawhai, Northland. I have come to know Nicky (one of the owners) through attending markets together. She has extensive knowledge about her oils & is lovely to have a chat to. If you see her at any markets, I urge you to go up, say hi, & sample some of their oils. You will not be disappointed!
I have a growing number of kids to buy for this year (I think it comes with my recent leap into my 30's). These keys are made in New Zealand & are the non-toxic, child-friendly version of actual keys. Sized perfectly for the littlest hands & ideal for promoting fine motor and hand-eye coordination. They enhance visual discrimination & help to build sensory skills. The rattling sound, realistic appearance & variety of pastel colours engages baby & keeps them discovering for sustained periods.
