There are pros & cons to working for yourself. One of the things I particularly miss about working in an office, is having co-workers. As a result, I find ways to connect with other like minded individuals, particularly other small business owners.
I frequently meet with dear Ashleigh, the mastermind behind Wild & Yellow - Event hosting & management. She is a bright spark with infectious energy. Her enthusiasm & meticulous attention to detail ensures that any event hosted by Wild & Yellow is not only a passion project, but nothing short of perfection. I am in awe of Ashleigh's delegation skills & creative vision.

Are you able to give the audience a quick lowdown on what Wild & Yellow does?
Wild & Yellow exists to ensure that during those special occasions when you desperately need everything to go perfectly, that it will. Easy going yet methodical, we develop each event with care & precision. In the planning stages we love to meet with clients to make sure they have all the necessary boxes ticked for their big day. On the day we are committed to bringing events to life, leaving the host to enjoy & relax, knowing it’s in capable hands.
Along with on the day event coordination Wild & Yellow also offers event styling. We love meeting people & finding a unique style that represents them & their event. We create mood boards, take care of sourcing items, set up & pack down.
What inspired you to create Wild & Yellow?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit & a strong desire to start my own business. The idea of Wild & Yellow came to light when a friend was looking for someone to manage & style her wedding day & really struggled to find someone who could do this within her budget. To fill this need Wild & Yellow was created – a beautiful brand that’s on trend, tasteful & inspiring.
What has been your most memorable moment so far during your Wild & Yellow journey?
During the summer of 2015 I travelled to the Coromandel with some amazing talents for a creative weekend. It was really inspiring & insightful spending time with people who share the same passions. Click here to see the shoot styled by Wild & Yellow
If Wild & Yellow were an animal, which animal would it be (haha) & why?
Haha love it! Wild & Yellow would definitely be a horse, like a horse we are really strong in the sense that the business has been built on solid foundations & I have strong vision & plan of where I want to take Wild & Yellow. Aside from horses being strong they work well independently & as part of a team, this is something we do really well which is super important in this industry.

What has been your biggest challenge so far with Wild & Yellow?
The biggest challenge has been losing my business partner Melissa. We started this journey together & a few months after launching her life took an exciting new turn. The challenge for me has been trying to fit everything in. I have big plans for Wild & Yellow so my work life balance has temporarily gone out the window.

What advice can you offer to someone who is thinking of starting their own business?
Honestly just go for it! There is something really powerful about having the ability to control your own destiny. I love being able to make decisions on everything from the direction of the business to the look & feel of the brand. Also be a “yes man”, some of my best experiences have come from saying yes to opportunities, even though at the time I had no idea what I was agreeing to! Say yes & figure it out later.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is typically more feminine, classic & preppy. My favourite item is a tweed blazer that I can dress up or down.
Who is your idol?
Roxy Jacenko - Founder of Sweaty Betty PR. Roxy started Sweat Betty PR in her early 20’s a premier fashion, beauty & lifestyle agency. I love her creativity, style & innovation. #ladybossinspo.
If you were to host any event in the world, what would it be?
The Oscars! I’m a huge movie buff & can’t go past the glitz & glamour, I’m like a magpie!
Lastly, as a designer, one of the biggest challenges I face is creating work for myself. I know you have a very important event to plan with your own wedding coming up (da, dum, da daahhhh). Will you be planning it all yourself & how do you feel about it?
Absolutely! I can’t wait to plan & style my wedding. I’m really excited to start the process, I’ll be kicking it off by going to the Bride & Groom Show & Hitched Wedding Fair. Hopefully my lovely fiancé will be on board with my ideas as I have a pretty specific vision of how I would like the day to look & feel.
A big thank you to Ashleigh for taking time to answer these questions. If you have enjoyed reading this, we would love to hear from you.
Hope you're having a great week. Until next time,
